Our Church's Involvement in Operation Christmas Child
In addition to the shoe boxes we pack (more on this below), our church is a regional collection center
for shoe boxes. Families, churches, organizations, and groups collecting and packing shoe boxes
from Boyle, Mercer, and Marion counties bring their shoe boxes to our church to be counted and loaded
onto trailers to begin their trip.
Our church participates in Operation Christmas Child as a year-round ministry. After this year's shoe boxes
have been sent, we begin collecting items for next year. The items are stored until November, when all
our shoe boxes are packed in assembly-line fashion. We collect different items each month, all month long,
but will accept any items at any time.
Our monthly items are:
January - Plastic shoe boxes,
wrapping paper (for cardboard boxes) and tissue paper (for inside plastic boxes)
February - Small Stuffed Animals
March - Hygiene Items - soap, washcloths, combs, small Kleenex, . . .
** NO LOTIONS, SHAMPOOS OR OTHER LIQUIDS!**
Mild soaps are better and Ivory 12-pack is usually the cheapest - strong smelling soap
makes the candy taste bad.
April - Girl Toys - small dolls, plastic jewelry, small purses, hair bows, . . .
** NO LOTIONS OR LIQUIDS**
May - Boy Toys - small cars, balls, action figures, . . .
** NO WAR TOYS, ARMY FIGURES,TOY GUNS, ETC. **
June - Big Kid Items (10-14 yr. olds) - flashlights w/ extra batteries,
car games, solar calculator, rope, yoyo, jacks, . . .
Baby Items (2-4 yr. olds) - baby dolls, squishy toys, . . .
July - toothpaste, toothbrushes, plastic cups
August - School Supplies - notebooks, coloring books, pencils, pencil sharpeners,
crayons, rulers, . . . **NO LIQUID GLUE**
September - Clothes - socks, flip-flops, gloves, hats . . . (ages 2-14)
**NEW ITEMS ONLY**
October - Quart size plastic bags with zipper (need two per box
- one for soap/washcloth and one for candy)
**START WRAPPING CARDBOARD BOXES **
November - Candy from after Halloween sales (individually wrapped)
**NO CHOCOLATE**
Create personal notes and/or photos to put in boxes
Second Weekend in November - Pack Boxes and collect shipping money ($7 per box)
December- after Christmas sales for wrapping paper, tissue and markdown toys.
ALL YEAR - large paper shoe boxes, happy meal toys, any great bargains . . .
